Boy and bear/Moonfire

Boy and Bear/Moonfire

The Australian group Boy and bear remind me a bit of Fleet Foxes. Their sound is quite similar, but personally I can find more catchy rhythm in Boy and bear.  When I looked up this group in the internet, I found a couple of references to the foxes, but also Angus and Julia Stone and Mumford and Sons. So not really surprising that I liked them almost instantly.

How far this love will go I cannot say. The last bad concert is still a living memory, but on the other hand many references describe them more like the small brothers following footsteps. Since that’s not how I see it, I might be totally wrong about their live performances as well. Unfortunately they’re not touring in Europe currently. So this has to wait a bit. But the CD has been ordered….

On their website they offer a song download for free - as they say. You just have to enter a valid E-mail-address (which isn’t the meaning of for free, by the way, but that will be another (great) rant.).

Three days ago they’ve won five prices at the 2011 Aria Awards (some price somewhere in Australia):

Sydney quintet, BOY & BEAR, capped off a busy year by winning five ARIA AWARDS for their critically acclaimed, self-produced, debut album, Moonfire. The band, who has already won accolades like Rolling Stone’s Artist to Watch of 2010 and triple j’s Unearthed Artist of the Year, won BEST ADULT ALTERNATIVE ALBUM, BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST - SINGLE, BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST - ALBUM, BEST GROUP and the coveted ALBUM OF THE YEAR for 2011.

So, there’s some potential, I’d say …
