Head meets desk

Slowly, very slowly Wordpress starts to annoy the shit out of me. Today they’ve released the update 3.4 and right away the internet is filling up with error messages and people asking for help.

I’ve also done the update and immediately the update broke. Though the site was still available, I couldn’t login into the admin area anymore or do anything else than just visiting the site. I could probably have prevented it by following the update procedure which AFAIR somewhere states to disable some plugins. I didn’t find it in the readme.html of the latest version though.

The solution was to disable the DB-Cache(-reloaded) plugin and skip the database upgrade.

Sine the Internet tends to re-organize every now and then I’ll write it here as well:

  1. Logon into your FTP account of your website.

  2. Make a backup of /http://example.com/db.php and /http://example.com/plugins/db-cache[-xxx] on your harddisk.

  3. Delete http://example.com/db.php and /http://example.com/plugins/db-cache[-xxx] from you FTP.

  4. Try to reload your admin-area.

This worked for me. And though it was just a simple and quick fix that didn’t take more than two or three minutes to run, this is just one more point on the lists of things I’m more and more upset with. The other thing is the terrible format and layout when e.g. posting some source-code.

… a solution is already in sight…
