Dust and heat

In 2012 I obviously have installed the machine I am currently writing this on. Since then the battery has died and got removed. Since I can remember the little temperature number in my status line showed something like T: 104 C. At least for a couple of months.

I didn’t give it much thought - the system wouldn’t run on that temperature for long anyway.

I thought.

During the last week it happened twice that the system just shut down without a warning. The first time I got - at least - a warning after the reboot that it might had have something to do with the temperature. What?

In a couple of free minutes today I got reminded of an old game (Sauerbraten)) that should be somewhere on the system as well. It was still there.

I was able to run it for five minutes until the machine again shutdown. Pussy.

OK, with a couple of minutes spare I fetched the screwdriver and opened it up. Took me about 15 minutes to dig my way through all the levels in there until I reached the fan. What shall I say: I have to apologize to this loyal, little computer here. With the vents completely black and covered in dust, there was no chance the fan could get any hot air out of the box. He must have tried very hard.

A couple of shots with the air duster and the dust wasn’t anymore.

Putting the thing back to gather is just hoping you don’t miss any connector and pin and as a good technician: I now have two screws spare! Yeah!

Now 55 is the new 104. Seems I wasn’t taking good care here… My, oh my…
